Builders Mutual Insurance currently seeks a Data Warehouse Operations Manager for an exciting new position within the organization. 

Reporting to the Director of Data Services, the Data Warehouse Operations Manager will oversee the daily activities associated with the Builders Mutual Data Warehouse team, and will provide management oversight for a team of 4 individuals, composed of ETL/Data Warehouse Developers and a reporting analyst.

Within 6 months, success will be defined as your having a well-managed team in place, in which each team member has accountability, knows their role on the team, and is meeting their deadlines.  There are checks and balances already in place for all of our processes, and it will be your goal to ensure that proper procedures are being followed for new projects, while also including final technical documentation.  Finally, within the first 6 months, you will be expected to guide and suggest solutions for Data Warehouse projects and production issues, as well as making recommendations for technical improvements such as upgrades and supplemental tools.

Responsibilities include:
  • Oversee the development activities of the ETL team by defining technical specifications, setting timelines, assigning resources and managing ETL development tasks and risks to ensure successful delivery of projects.
  • Maintain the quality of data in the warehouse by ensuring proper balancing and control processes are in place and being followed.
  • Advise and make recommendations on the need for upgrades on software/hardware as it pertains to the SQL Server environment.
  • Maintain and create documentation on new and existing processes. 
  • Ensure proper procedures are in place for developers to push changes from development to production.
  • Oversee, support, and approve technical design documentation.
  • Provide scoping, prioritization, planning, resources and status reporting to upper management.
  • Ensure comprehensive solutions for testing and implementation.
  • Implement SQL Server security policies for the Data Warehouse server(s), and data retention policies.
  • Support ad-hoc requests as well as formalized requests.
  • Ensure overall performance and availability of data warehouse infrastructure and ensure processes are properly monitored and issues acted upon in a timely manner.
  • Support the research and resolution of data warehouse issues during and after business hours (after business hours on an as-needed basis).
  • Partner with other departments such as Finance, Underwriting and Marketing as well as  IT team members such as the Infrastructure Team, the Business Analysts, Project Managers and others as needed to achieve results.
  • Research, review, and analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of existing procedures and develop strategies for enhancing or further leveraging these processes.
  • Communicate changes, enhancements, and modifications to management and other employees so that issues and solutions are understood.
Required skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent, related work experience
  • 5+ years of experience with SQL server database administration/development version 2005 or later
  • 3+ years of recent experience with SSIS, SSRS
  • 7+ years dimensional modeling/data warehouse development (SQL Server preferred)
  • 2+ years management in a data warehouse environment
  • Strong Communication skills
Preferred Skills:          
  • Insurance Industry experience
  • Experience interfacing BI solutions with SharePoint
  • Any experience in the following is a plus:  SSAS, PerformancePoint, Team Foundation Server, QlikView, VBScript, SalesForce.com
